WHERE WE ARE
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GO SOUTHERN BAROSSA!
The Southern Barossa is the region to the south and east of the historic 'centre' of the Barossa, the areas known as Bethany and Tanunda. The Southern Barossa takes in the historic towns of Lyndoch and Williamstown, the Barossa goldfields, Rowland Flat and to the south-east, the Mount Crawford forests. The region is rich with history and today is regarded as the fastest growing area of the Barossa, buffered as it is alongside the fast-growing outer-northern suburbs of Adelaide and the equally fast-growing northern regional town of Gawler. It is also regarded as the south-eastern 'gateway' to the Barossa Valley. |
GETTING TO THE SOUTHERN BAROSSA!
If you live in Adelaide's southern, western or seaside suburbs, the
left-most route would probably suit you the best. Get on to the
Port Expressway, then onto Port Wakefield Road, turning off onto the
Northern Expressway, exiting at Gawler, then on to Lyndoch via the
Barossa Valley Way.
If you live in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, the centre-most route via Main North Road would be convenient, passing Parafield Airport and Elizabeth and on to Gawler South. Take the left-hand exit marked ‘Gawler Town Centre’, drive through Gawler’s main street and take the right hand turn onto the Barossa Valley Way, then on to Lyndoch. |
If you live in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs - or you prefer a leisurely drive through the scenic Adelaide Hills rather than battling traffic lights and city traffic - take the route marked in blue.
This takes you through the low foothills up Anstey Hill, then via Houghton and Inglewood, past the Millbrook Reservoir, turning left onto South Para Road, passing through Kersbrook, then on to Williamstown. This route adds to the fun of getting to the Southern Barossa and provides a great look at the superb Adelaide Hills!
