Our
2018 Budburst in the Barossa event on the Lyndoch Green proved an
outstanding success, drawing hundreds of people who celebrated
'budburst' on a balmy Spring evening (Friday October 12, 2018).
Southern Barossa Alliance's Deputy Chair Steve Balch said the event - and crowd numbers - proved that Southern Barossans respond positively to events like Budburst, which provide them with a family-friendly way of getting together with neighbors.
"We were extremely lucky with the weather, given the days leading up and immediately after Budburst saw a return to winter-like conditions.
"A number of food stalls kept the hungry well satisfied with the Lyndoch Tennis Club, the Barossa Rams Rugby Club, the Pasta Guy, a quality coffee van, a potato spiral stall and Asian and 'game' foods well patronised - and the fun was added to by our own ‘sprouts’ - young entertainers from a number of high schools and colleges around the region who performed during the evening," Steve said.
For the more mature ‘old viners’, the Barossa Rams Rugby Club did beer - and 1847 Wines and Gomersal Wines were there with fine bottles of the fruits of budbursts past.

THE LYNDOCH CHRISTMAS PARTY 2018
No-one knows how to party better than Southern Barossans!
On Friday December 14 2018, Lyndoch hosted its famous Community Christmas Party, moved at the last minute from the Lyndoch Oval to Chateau Barossa due to inclement weather. Thanks Mark and Mandy Creed from Chateau Barossa who came to Lyndoch’s rescue - otherwise the Christmas Party would have been very soggy!
The Lyndoch Community Committee and the Southern Barossa Alliance were amazed at how many turned out for the event, given the weather and the last-minute change of venue....but it worked!
Thanks everyone for coming along and it proves once again - we love the place we live!
See the action in our 'slide-show' video below! (runs 4mins 10 secs approx - best viewed at this size...)

SMALL BAROSSA WINERIES LEARN HOW TO LEVERAGE MARKETING AND SALES
Representatives from more than 30 small and ‘boutique’ wineries from the Barossa and surrounding regions gathered at the Barossa District Football and Netball Clubrooms in 2018 to hear from a wine marketing expert about wine marketing and sales tactics to take their offerings from their cellar doors to the nation, and to the world.
The Small Winemakers Marketing Workshop was an initiative of the Southern Barossa Alliance (SBA). Our charter includes helping local, innovative businesses expand their business knowledge, increase sales and improve their profitability. When approached by the SBA, Regional Development Australia took the lead to organise the event, while Cooperages 1912 and Abbeyfield Aged Care helped with the catering and Barossa District Football and Netball Club provided the venue.
RDA organised for Rob Turnbull, Director of Bull & Bull Luxury Australian Wines and a leading expert in advising small wineries on marketing and sales, to run the workshop.
Get a coffee (or a good Barossa wine!) and take a quick look at our summary of the event in the video below!
ARMISTICE DAY REMEMBERED IN THE SOUTHERN BAROSSA
|
Southern Barossans turned out in numbers
on November 11 2018 to commemorate Armistice Day which 100 years ago saw
the end of fighting in World War 1.
Hamlets across our region saluted our World War 1 Diggers with ceremonies both great and small. See our video below of the commemoration in Williamstown where scores turned out to mark the event. LEST WE FORGET. (video runs 5 mins 53 secs approx.) |
TOUR DOWN UNDER through the Southern Barossa, January 2018
The
Southern Barossa turned on yet another fantastic SANTOS Tour Down Under
Carnival this year, with events stretching over Friday January 12
through to Tuesday January 16 2018.
The SANTOS Tour Down Under Women's Race zoomed through the Southern Barossa under drizzly rain on January 12 2018, to the applause of hundreds of locals who turned out, despite the showers, to cheer them on! Then on Monday January 15, the Southern Barossa Alliance threw arguably the best TDU regional community party known as the 'Wheels on the Green', encompassing the Southern Barossa Gourmet Village, which attracted hundreds more locals and visitors who sampled the great food and wines of the Southern Barossa Valley. Then on Tuesday January 16, Stage 2 of the SANTOS Tour Down Under Men's Race wound its way from Port Adelaide to finish in Lyndoch, after three loops through the Southern Barossa. This year we escaped the heat which hampered previous years' TDUs through the Barossa - heat which this year sadly affected other Stages of the TDU further south. The Lyndoch, Sandy Creek, Cockatoo Valley and Williamstown loops are now embedded in Tour Down Under history, the region's geography with its flat stretches and hilly challenges amongst the vines echoing the scenery of the South of France, coupled with a convenient 'looped' route over good roads providing unprecedented viewing and access to the Peloton and the convenience of a long finish line down the main street of Lyndoch abutting the spacious Village Green, continues to make the Southern Barossa route so attractive to organisers. |

We hope the Southern Barossa will be chosen again to host a Stage of the 2019 SANTOS Tour Down Under - we think we do it well - and WE LOVE THE PLACE WE LIVE!
