Introducing Mel, who shares the roles of Secretary and Treasurer for the Southern Barossa Business Group. Since relocating to the area in 2016, Mel has become a key part of the community, both through her law firm, Shorter Legal, and her active involvement in local initiatives. Here's a little more about Mel…

🔹 **How long have you lived in the Southern Barossa?**
We moved to the Southern Barossa in June 2016 with our 3 teenage children – and love it here! Our eldest daughter and her family live around the corner, and my Dad also lives on the same street as my daughter.

🔹 **What kind of business do you operate?**
In 2022 we opened our own law firm ‘Shorter Legal’ which is based in Gawler, but I do a lot of my work from home. In that time, we have grown to now having 6 staff and moved a larger office to accommodate our growing team. We practice in the areas of Family Law, Wills & Estates and Criminal Law. I have been on the SBBG committee for about 2 years and was part of the team that brought back the Lyndoch Street Party in 2024.

🔹 **What do you love about the Southern Barossa?**
I love the small-town country feel of the Southern Barossa (where neighbours know each other and talk to each other!) and being able to switch off at the end of the day. I love the amazing wineries, restaurants / cafes and small family run businesses which are so close to home and that you get to meet the people who created these amazing experiences.

🔹 **What do you like to do on a day off?**
We go for a walk with our dog and grab a coffee at the local cafe, potter in our garden, and have our family over (including our beautiful grandbabies) and share great food and wine. We also like to take our sports car out for a drive and visit a new winery or restaurant or go for a motorbike ride when the weather is nice.

🔹 **What is the last movie you saw?**
I just rewatched Eat Pray Love for probably the 10thtime.

🔹 **Favourite meal of all time?**
My husband is an amazing cook – so I am spoiled and could not possibly pick just one. Paella, home-made pizza, curry, Kingfish sashimi/ceviche, and caveman style rib eye steak on the Weber (the list could go on!) – all with good local red wine or an Alicante. Yum!!

🌟 **Introducing Bridgette Hasting: Our New Chair of the Southern Barossa Business Group!** 🌟

We're excited to introduce Bridgette Hasting, Chief Pilot of Barossa Helicopters, as the new Chair of the Southern Barossa Business Group! Bridgette has been an active member of the business group for years, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to the role. She’s also played a key part in bringing the Lyndoch Street Party back in 2024 and, alongside a couple of friends, organizes the Barossa Rodeo! 🙌

We sat down with Bridgette to get to know her a little better. Here’s what she had to say:

🔹 **How long have you lived in the Southern Barossa?**
"I was born here and am the 5th generation on our family property, which has been in our family since the mid-1880s. The Southern Barossa has always been home, and I’m proud of our deep roots in the community."

🔹 **What kind of business do you operate?**
"I run Barossa Helicopters, a family-owned business primarily focused on tourism experiences, but we also do a variety of other helicopter work across South Australia. No two days are the same, and we love showcasing the region from the air! I have been on the SBBG committee for about 3 years and was part of the team that brought back the @in 2024. Myself and 2 mates also organize the Barossa Rodeo!"

🔹 **What do you love about the Southern Barossa?**
"I love the strong sense of community, the beautiful open spaces, and how we’re surrounded by incredible food, wine, and local businesses. It's the perfect mix of country living with amazing experiences right on our doorstep."

🔹 **What do you like to do on a day off?**
"I love spending time with my husband and kids, competing in barrel racing on my horse, and of course, enjoying a glass of wine to support our fantastic local wineries!"

🔹 **What is the last movie you saw?**
"We watched *Paddington in Peru* with our kids — such a fun, heartwarming movie that had all of us laughing and loving the adventure."

🔹 **Favourite meal of all time?**
"It’s hard to beat a good steak, cooked perfectly on the BBQ, with a glass of local red wine — simple but delicious, and best shared with family and friends."

We’re thrilled to have Bridgette leading the Southern Barossa Business Group and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead. 🌟
