Australia’s Biggest Footy Festival Comes Back to SA
The much-anticipated AFL ‘Gather Round’ is set to return to South Australia in 2025, bringing with it the excitement and opportunity for a unique showcase of the Barossa Valley’s renowned food and wine.
This year marks a significant milestone as Barossa Park will host its first-ever AFL matches, highlighting the region’s rich offerings.
Scheduled from Thursday, 10 April to Sunday, 13 April (during school holidays for Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia), the festival promises an engaging weekend for fans and visitors.
Barossa Park, the under-renovation sporting precinct at Lyndoch, will be the centerpiece for two thrilling matches. North Melbourne will take on the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday afternoon, followed by Richmond facing Fremantle on Sunday afternoon.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon expressed his enthusiasm for the event: “The Barossa celebrates some of the best of South Australia, and we are excited about all the opportunities for fans to enjoy while visiting the region, beyond the two incredible games at Barossa Park.”
SA Premier Peter Malinauskas also emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “I’m thrilled we are on track to deliver two matches in the Barossa, a spectacular destination for the many visitors who will come to South Australia for this major event. This presents a unique opportunity to invite those visitors to stay longer, experience more of what SA has to offer, and bring economic benefits to our state.”
Malinauskas added, “Barossa Park at Lyndoch is looking spectacular, and I extend my thanks to the Barossa Council for collaborating with us to create a precinct that will benefit the community for years to come.”
